How To Protect Your Amazon Brand From Hijackers With Our 10-Foot Fence Strategy

Tue Aug 13, 2019 Amazon Brand Registry

When you file your trademark application, it typically takes at least nine months to register with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This wait can feel especially long for an Amazon seller who is hoping to take advantage of Amazon Brand Registry which requires a trademark registration.

While you wait, here are two things from our “10-Foot Fence Strategy” you can implement to help protect your brand.

A detailed discussion can be found on the Youtube video below.

Label your products

It’s surprising how many sellers import generic-looking products without any thought put into actually branding their product. You’re in the Private Label business so make sure you label your products and design your product packaging to clearly show the brand. This step not only makes it more difficult for a hijacker to jump on your listing but it will also make it easier for you to differentiate your product when you’re filing an “inauthentic product complaint” to Amazon in case a hijacker does appear on your ASIN.

Bundle your products

Because most hijackers are lazy and will enter a niche with the least amount of resistance, you can prevent hijackers by bundling. By making it more difficult to copy your product in this way, a hijacker is less likely to go through all the trouble to try to source all your bundled items in order to copy your listing. More importantly, if someone lists their product under your listing and it does not have your exact bundle, it is a lot easier to have Amazon remove them immediately.

These two steps alone would help fend off most hijackers. However, for those more aggressive hijackers, you may want to consider hiring an attorney. If you need help in this area, get in touch with us today.
